September 20, 2007

Crafty Bastards

If M Street has left you with a hankering for off-beat creativity, look no further than Crafty Bastards. With over 100 vendors, Crafty Bastards showcases talented independent artists and crafters from around the D.C. area. You’ll find alternative products like punk rock baby clothes, screen-printing, handspun yarn, handcrafted jewelry and quirky plush toys. Belly dancers, a fire-eater, food, prizes and entertainment add to the carnival atmosphere. The annual fair will be held on Sunday, September 30 from 10a.m.-5p.m. at the Marie Reed Learning Center at 18th & Wyoming in Adams Morgan.

D.C. Green Festival

Going Green is a trend these days, and there is no better way to learn more about this way of life than at the D.C. Green Festival. For the discounted student price of $10, enjoy a festival with workshops, green films, a fair trade pavilion and yoga & movement classes. Located at the Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place) on Saturday, October 6 from 10a.m.-8p.m. and Sunday, October 7 from 11a.m.-6p.m., the D.C. Green Festival has over 125 innovative speakers and 350 green businesses selling their products. To top off the day there is organic cuisine, live music and of course, organic beer.

National BLOCKtoberfest

Regarded as one of the “nation’s hottest festivals,” for only $15 you can enjoy an evening of partying and concerts. There are 51 bands and DJs including: Stroke 9, Gin Blossoms & Mr. Green genes, Violent Femmes, Kelly Bell Band, Emmett Swimming, Army of Me and Rude Buddha. It’s basically one huge party of over 10,000 people, with dancing, beer, food and entertainment. The fun begins on Saturday, October 6 from 1p.m.-10p.m. at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds.

FRESHFARM Markets

Over 30 farmers from within a 150-mile radius of D.C. come to Dupont Circle every Sunday (9a.m.-1p.m.), rain or shine, to sell their locally-grown produce. You can stock up on kitchen staples like delicious jams, fruits and veggies, sauces, meat, fish, pasta and bread. Soaps, herbs and flowers also fill the stands, giving consumers a fragrant selection of local products to choose from.
