Letters to the Editor

Voice website offensive

September 20, 2007

To the Editor:

As a member of the Georgetown alumni, I wanted to comment that I find your website header of someone walking over the University seal offensive. If it is your intended purpose to indeed insult the University community, congratulations on meeting your directive, although I hesitate to see how alienating the sole constituency you serve advances any traditional journalistic principle, such as reader loyalty, advertising support, or journalistic integrity. I see it in the same vein as a storekeeper spitting on his or her customers.

Perhaps you may want to reevaluate your decision making on the issue and select an image that is not demeaning to the school. It should be noted that in 27 years, I have never written another letter of this nature.

Scott Homa (MSB ’03)

Editor’s Note: If stepping on the seal is offensive, perhaps it shouldn’t have been placed on the ground. In front of a door. We love the campus community; we also love jokes.
