FAST BREAK

October 25, 2007

The Georgetown Men’s golf team ended the fall season with a disappointing result in the 23rd annual Georgetown Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The team finished with a combined score of 43-over par, good enough for sixth place in the 12-team field. Only one Hoya, sophomore Vincenzo Salina of Switzerland, cracked the individual top ten with a four-over par total for tenth place.

The season-ending tournament took place at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md. The course, the first signature effort in the U.S. by PGA tour veteran Nick Price and architect Steve Smyers, was also the site of last year’s invitational. Then, Georgetown overcame a four stroke deficit to edge out William & Mary for first place. This year’s team had no such success, finishing one stroke behind the Tribe and a whopping 45 strokes behind champions DePaul.

Despite the numbers, the team has reason to be optimistic. The sixth place finish was the best that the team has achieved this season, and the seven underclassmen that make up more than half of the roster have plenty of time to improve. Coach Hunter was unavailable for comment.
