Georgetown’s volleyball team lost its final conference match 3-0 last Saturday to the UConn Huskies. Despite strong defensive blocking by sophomore Kiersten McKoy and junior Caitlin Boyd, the Lady Hoyas were unable to overcome offensive errors to defeat the Huskies.
The Lady Hoyas lost the first game 30-22 despite starting off with a quick seven-point run. The Huskies recovered with strong hitting to capture the match.
“We had problems with ball control and not terminating plays. It’s hard to come back from a momentum loss like that,” Head Coach Arlisa Hagan Williams said.
Georgetown showed improvement in game two, hitting .205, but still lost the game 30-28. Sophomore Courtney Cohen led the Hoyas’ offense hitting an impressive .267.
“We were hitting well in spurts,” Williams said. “Cohen stepped up when we needed her to step up.”
The Lady Hoyas had difficultly executing offensively, hitting .158 overall to UConn’s .282, and ultimately lost the third match, 30-23.
With the regular season behind them, the Georgetown volleyball team is preparing for the VCU Thanksgiving tournament on November 24-23. Coach Williams has high hopes for her team in the tournament.
“When we actually play, we’re actually pretty good,” she said. “We have to play well all of the time.”
