The Hoya women’s basketball team did not come out strong against the DePaul Blue Demons. In the early minutes DePaul shot at a 69.2 percent clip, while the Hoyas managed to turn the ball over seven times, resulting in an early 25-8 Demon lead.
The Hoyas came back with a 20-2 run led by senior guard Kristin Heidloff. With 7:00 to go in the half, Heidloff hit one of her three first-half three pointers to put the Hoyas up 28-27.
“[The Blue Demons] are a very tough team to stop,” Heidloff said. “Once we started scoring, our defense really stepped up.”
The Hoyas headed into the locker room with a 40-39 lead.
In the second half the Blue Demons pulled ahead by ten points with 9:25 to go, while the Hoyas fought back with free throws shooting.
“Kieerah, Kristin and Jaleesa had huge games,” Hoyas Head Coach Terri Williams-Fluornoy said. “They really stepped up coming off the bench.”
With 13.6 seconds left and the score 80-78 DePaul, the Hoyas had the ball and the chance to tie. DePaul guard Allie Quigley, though, sealed the ballgame that she had dominated throughout, (leading all scorers with 36 points). Quigley stole the inbound pass and hit the lay-up to put the Demons up four, carrying DePaul to an 82-78 victory.
