Georgetown University is turning the 1400 block of 36th street into a collection of Living and Learning communities called Magis Row. About 40 students attended an informational meeting about the new community on Tuesday.
Each townhouse in Magis Row will be a Living and Learning Community for four students with a common interest. Each group of students will need a faculty advisor and will perform a day of community service per semester, according to Katie Heather, the Assistant Director of the Office of Residence Life.
No housing eligibility is required to live in the houses, and Heather said there is no minimum grade point average to live on Magis Row but added that applicants must be “academically sound.” She also mentioned that alcohol violations and other disciplinary records will count against applicants.
At the information session, Heather responded to concerns that the townhouses were being taken out of the normal housing lottery.
“We’re not pulling them away, we’re just inviting different students to live in them,” she said.
