Vroooooom show

February 5, 2009

More than just a means for transportation, cars in America have long served as indicators of status and as treasured collectibles. Celebrities always flaunt their auto collections on MTV’s “Cribs,” and Jay Leno even has a 17,000-square-foot garage that houses his car collection. America is undeniably fixated on its automobiles—perhaps unhealthily so—and car shows are the most obvious symptom of this sickness.

The Washington Auto Show, one of D.C.’s largest public car shows, aims to please casual admirers and hard-core enthusiasts alike. The exhibition brings together more than 40 domestic and foreign automakers, including Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley, and Mercedes-Benz, and displays over 700 new cars, trucks, mini-vans, and sports utility vehicles at the Washington Convention Center.

There is an eclectic array of events for show-goers to take part in; whether you want to be one of the first to see the gas friendly slick concept models of Cadillac and Lincoln or you’re more interested in meeting the Washington Redskin’s cheerleaders, there is something for everyone. And for all the Disney fans out there, High School Musical star Chad, played by Corbin Bleu, will be stopping by the exhibition on Sunday, February 8th from 2:00 – 4:15 p.m.

This is an event not to be missed—after all, you only have so much time to master the creepy “hey ladies” head nod before you’re enter mid-life crisis mode.

This year’s Washington Auto Show takes place February 4-8 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Adult tickets are $10 on weekdays, $12 on weekends.
