Halftime Leisure

The Weekly List: Good Weather, Good Vibes

April 1, 2015

Cold weather people are bad people. In rebellion against the slowly dissipating cold, we as a collective opposition to snow boots and jackets, deserve to be happy. As we emerge from winter hibernation, let us celebrate with by dancing along to of our guilty pleasure songs, with smiles on our faces. In lieu of a specific topic for this edition of the weekly list, all I think this playlist deserves is a feeling. Without further adieu, Halftime is sending you some good vibes.

When you hear Tipsy by J-Kwon, you know that the time to dance has come. Nothing quite does the job like some hard bass, early 2000’s rap. Poetic lyrics like, “Hands in the air if you cats drunk as me/Club owner said, “Kwon put out those trees/Dude I don’t care I’m a P.I.M.P!” truly soothe your party soul. Go Hard by everyone’s favorite female rapper, Kreayshawn, fits perfectly in the same dancey vein.

To bring our musical dance party back a few years, put on your shoulder-padded jacket and You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates. Need I say more?

Of course if you need something besides the greatest song of all time, Billy Idol’s Dancing with Myself is a fantastic substitute. Billy Idol’s grit punk smashes into an upbeat, clap-your-hands beat to create another instant classic

If you’re in the mood for something more relaxed, Good Day by Greg Street and Nappy Roots both cannot be described in any way besides happy. With a children-sung chorus and a simple piano riff, this song is perfect for a mellow time. Although an oldie, who doesn’t smile at hearing Dancing in the Streets? The sonorous Martha Reeves keeps the celebration going.

Valerie by Amy Winehouse and Hey Mami by Sylvan Esso may give off more chill, sultry vibes, but in unique styles. The former, a motown-style cover is beautifully nostalgic in contrast to the synth overtones of Sylvan Esso’s track.

That is it for this edition of the Weekly list! Please enjoy and chill to your heart’s desire.
