After falling to the Providence Friars (13-8-1, 5-4-0 Big East) in penalty kicks in the Big East Tournament semi-finals last Friday night, the Georgetown women’s soccer team (11-5-3, 6-1-2 Big East) was consoled with an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and home field advantage for the first round, where they will play Hofstra (13-5-1, 7-1-1 CAA) in the Hoyas’ sixth all-time tournament appearance. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. this Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field.

“It’s a great honor to get selected,” Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan said. “It’s a tremendous award for the team and it’s a recognition of the success we’ve had as a program. We will have our hands full with a very talented Hofstra team on Saturday, but we were not ready to see this season end and we are very excited about the opportunity to play in the NCAAs.”

The Hoyas will enter Saturday’s matchup with a talented young core. Midfielder Rachel Corboz, recently named the Big East Midfielder of the Year, leads a star-studded sophomore class along with her midfield partner Taylor Pak and defender Elizabeth Wenger, who were both selected to the All-Big East Second Team. The sophomores’ younger by one year, freshman forward Caitlin Farrell, capped a successful first season both off the bench and in an occasional starting role with Big East All-Freshman Team honors.

The Hoya seniors bring three NCAA Tournaments-worth of experience to the table. Goalkeeper Emma Newins, forward Crystal Thomas, and defender Sarah Adams each received All-Big East Second Team honors of their own going into their final run at a national championship.

The winner of the Hoya-Pride matchup is slated to meet the victor of Farleigh Dickinson and Rutgers next Thursday in the second round.
