The Georgetown women’s basketball team (7-4, 0-1 Big East) started Big East play on a losing note Tuesday night, as they fell at Xavier (10-2, 1-0 Big East) 59-54. Freshman guard Dionna White was the only Hoya to score in double-figures with 11 points.
The Musketeers’ 7-1 run to close the game proved to be fatal, after the Hoyas took their first lead, 53-52, since the first quarter, just a few minutes into the fourth quarter. Junior guard Jade Martin’s three-pointer capped a 7-0 scoring run for the Hoyas to briefly overcome their almost gamelong deficit.
For the well-balanced Hoyas, senior forward Logan Battle scored nine points, while sophomore guards DiDi Burton and Dorothy Adomako each had seven points. Junior guard Tyshell King tied for a game-high eight rebounds, while Burton and senior forward Dominique Vitalis also grabbed seven rebounds.
The Hoyas shot 38 percent from the field while the Musketeers shot 43 percent, including 6-of-12 from three-point range. Redshirt junior guard Raeshaun Gaffney had a game-high 19 points for the Musketeers.
The Hoyas will look to get their first Big East win when they return to action Thursday night at Butler (5-7, 0-1 Big East). Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. with the game broadcast on the Big East Digital Network.
