The Hoyas are coming off an 87-72 loss at Marquette (6-10, 1-4 Big East), which saw Georgetown surrender an 18-point lead en route to defeat. Freshman guard Dionna White scored 16 points to lead the Hoyas, who ended the game shooting just 36 percent from the floor as a team. Sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako added 13 points, but played just 13 minutes due to foul trouble. On the season, White and Adomako have consistently carried much of the scoring load for Georgetown, leading the team with 14.3 points per game and 13.7 points per game, respectively.
After Adomako put the Hoyas up 61-54 with a three-pointer at the 8:24 mark, the Golden Eagles responded with a 33-11 run to close out the game, including a 16-0 stretch to take a 75-63 lead.
The team has not fared well from long range this season, shooting just 23 percent on 15.4 attempts per game, while allowing opponents to shoot 35 percent from deep.
The Johnnies are not particularly potent from three, shooting just 30 percent, but they do shoot 47 percent overall from the field, and boast a dynamic scoring duo between senior guards Danaejah Grant and Aliyyah Handford, who average 19.8 and 18.2 points per game, respectively.
St. John’s is coming off a 71-69 win against the Seton Hall Pirates (13-3, 3-2 Big East), in which Grant and Handford combined to score 46.
After this game, the Hoyas return to action against Seton Hall on Sunday in McDonough Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Johnnies travel to Villanova (10-6, 4-2 Big East) for a 1:00 p.m. Sunday matchup of their own.
