Following one of the most historic seasons in program history, three key pieces of the Hoyas defense were selected in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday afternoon in Baltimore.

Junior centerback and captain Joshua Yaro– a consensus top-three MLS prospect following his last two seasons with Georgetown– was selected second overall by the Philadelphia Union after the team traded up for the draft’s No. 2 pick.

The Union, who also owned the third overall selection in the draft, chose another Hoya– senior fullback and captain Keegan Rosenberry– and plan to pair Rosenberry and Yaro, who collectively helped Georgetown become one of the most stifling defensive sides in the nation last season.

Later in the first round, with the 16th selection in the draft, Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected senior centerback Cole Seiler, who was a starter and key defensive contributor in each of his four seasons with the Hoyas.

The University of North Carolina joined Georgetown as the only two universities with three players selected in the first round of the SuperDraft.

With the first two rounds completed on Thursday, those MLS prospects still hoping to be drafted will have to wait until Tuesday, when the last two rounds of the draft will take place via conference call.
