Lacrosse getting back on track

The Georgetown men’s lacrosse team (5-4) entered Tuesday’s game against Mount St. Mary’s attempting to do something the squad had not accomplished all season: win consecutive games. “We told the guys it was about time we strung some wins together,” head coach Dave Urick said.

After a controversial snub from the NCAA Tournament ended last season for the Hoyas, the Georgetown men’s lacrosse team has yet to come up with a signature win to boost their playoff resume in 2011. While such a win has been elusive, the unranked Hoyas have certainly come close.

While the winter storm caused chaos outside the Verizon Center on Wednesday night, the Hoyas had no trouble handling the Red Storm on the court. In front of a late-arriving crowd, Georgetown trounced St. John’s 77-52, avenging a three-point loss earlier this month at Madison Square Garden.

Fighting Irish deliver Hoyas a crushing blow

The Georgetown women’s basketball team (14-5, 2-3 Big East) got to South Bend expecting a tough fight against No. 11 Notre Dame (16-4, 5-1 Big East) on Tuesday night, and the Fighting Irish gave them more then they could handle. The No. 16 Hoyas fell for the second time in three games, this time in convincing fashion: 80-58.

The Georgetown women’s basketball team will face the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers tonight in a game that marks the opening of Big East play. So far this year, the Hoyas have been a force to be reckoned with in non-conference action, reaching a lofty No. 11 national ranking this week.
