Off-Campus Blues: Life outside the gates

About a year ago, the front steps of Anna Dimon’s (COL ’11) house on Prospect Street collapsed and became completely unusable. After a year of things falling apart in the house, including breaking floors, an exploding water heater, and the doorknob falling off the basement door, the stairs were the last straw.

Georgetown filmmakers shine at Sundance

Who says Georgetown doesn’t breed creativity? This past week at the Sundance Film Festival, the creative minds of Georgetown were well-represented, with five films whose directors, actors or producers that have graduated from the University competed in the world-famous film contest. And one of these movie, Another Earth, won big. Way big. Another Earth, directed by Mike Cahill (COL ’01) and starring fellow alum Brit Marling (COL ’05), is a sci-fi drama about the discovery of a duplicate Planet Earth in the solar system.

Documentarians explore life after Georgetown

Weeks before graduation, Rachel Shone and Laura Sortwell decided to move to India to explore low-income housing and Bollywood filmmaking. Neither wanted to leave when Rachel was unable to find a job, so they talked Carlee Briglia and Mary Clare Semler, into filming a documentary.
