Why is voting this hard?

Electronic voting was originally hailed as the solution to all voting problems. Hanging, pregnant and otherwise illicit chads would be a thing of the past, and confusing butterful ballots would be replaced with state-of-the-art touchscreen displays. But now that such voting machines have been implemented in many states, Florida 2000 is beginning to look like a walk in the park.

Correction

“Taking out the trash” (Cover, Oct. 23) states that Georgetown University reached a peak recycling rate of 43 percent in 1996. However, this figure does not account for waste produced during move-in and move-out. The actual rate at that time, accounting for those figures, was between 16 percent and 18 percent, according to University Recycling Coordinator Pat Dollar.

DeGioia declines to formally address Arinze speech

DeGioia will not publicly respond to anti-gay remarks made by Cardinal Francis Arinze at last May’s graduation as requested by the Faculty Senate in a resolution passed on Oct. 21, according to Assistant Vice President of Communication Julie Bataille.

Men’s soccer heats up in Big East play

The Georgetown men’s soccer team has found that loving feeling or whatever it was that they lost during the past two weekend home games, defeating the Syracuse Orangemen this Saturday 4-1 on North Kehoe Field to inch closer to the .500 mark.

Following the team’s first win in three games last Wednesday at Villanova, the Hoyas won their second straight Big East match with a brilliant second half performance against Syracuse.
