After defeating Marquette (2-12) 13-7 in Milwaukee this past Friday, the No. 8 Georgetown women’s lacrosse team (9-3, 3-1 Big East) completed their Midwestern road trip in South Bend , Ind. on Sunday with a 13-12 loss at the hands of No. 6 Notre Dame (11-1, 5-1 Big East). Despite three goals by senior midfielder Sophia Thomas, as well as two apiece from senior midfielder Kelsi Bozel and junior midfielder Meghan Farrell, the Hoyas failed to complete a last-minute comeback.

Coming off an exciting 17-12 home win this past Friday against Marquette (2-5), the Georgetown men’s lacrosse team (4-6, 1-1 Big East) lost 8-6 in disappointing fashion to Villanova (3-6, 2-0 Big East). Facing a 6-5 deficit after the third quarter, the Wildcats scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter that helped catapult them to victory.

On Wednesday night, No. 11 Georgetown (20-4, 10-3 Big East) proved why it sits atop the Big East in a bucket-fest victory over DePaul (11-15, 2-11 Big East). The Hoyas’ 90-66 win at the Verizon Center yielded their highest point total of the year. Freshman guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera racked up a career-high of 33 points. Smith-Rivera became the first Hoya to score this many points since Victor Page scored 34 in 1996. The freshman guard shot a sizzling 10-of-12 from the floor including 5-of-6 from three point range.

Despite only being down four points at the break, the Cardinals proved too much to handle for the Hoyas in the second-half as they cruised to a win.

Although they began the slate with a 79-64 win over Providence, the last three games have been a struggle for the Hoyas, with losses to national powerhouses Notre Dame and Connecticut, as well as to arch rival Syracuse.
