Although outgoing GUSA executives Brian Morgenstern (CAS ‘05) and Steve de Man (CAS ‘04) ran into significant difficulties in implementing their agenda, they nonetheless led a fairly successful administration. Coming on the heels of former GUSA execs Kaydee Bridges (SFS ‘03) and Mason Ayer (SFS ‘03), Morgenstern and de Man faced high standards as they tried to build on their predecessors’ record.

Basketball Coach Esherick Fired

NEWS BY CAMERON SMITH Under increased pressure from angry students and fans, Georgetown University President John DeGioia fired men’s basketball Head Coach Craig Esherick(CAS ‘78 and LAW ‘82) on Monday night. DeGioia announced his decision at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, just 13 hours before a scheduled rally calling for Esherick’s resignation and additional funding for the men’s program.

Council addresses sexual assault response

An estimated 70 percent of sexual assaults on college campuses went unreported last year, according to Sexual Assault Coordinator Shannon Hunnicutt. A new Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Advisory Council wants to change that. Providing training to Resident Assistants and Department of Public Safety officers to deal with sexual assault victims, student representative Mary Nagle (CAS ‘05) said, will ensure that “no one will fall through the cracks.

Serving abroad

After four or five intense semesters at Georgetown, most students consider their time abroad as a time to relax while perhaps enjoying a few alcoholic beverages. While adapting to a foreign environment and immersing oneself in a foreign language is certainly challenging, the workload abroad tends to be much lighter than a semester spent at Georgetown.

Languishing in jail for six hours provided me with one of the most educating and enlightening experiences of my time at Georgetown. Several weeks ago, I, along with two other students and a former Burmese political prisoner, Aung Din, was arrested at a protest in front of the Burmese embassy.
