Men’s lacrosse outlasts Catholic brethren

The Georgetown men’s lacrosse team exploded with a first-period offensive flurry in Saturday’s 14-10 win over Baltimore’s Loyola College Greyhounds. The explosions, which resounded as loudly as those over Baltimore Harbor that inspired Francis Scott Key’s national anthem in 1813, created immediate distance between the two clubs clawing towards a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Fightin’ Irish handle hardball Hoyas

Georgetown’s baseball squad (20-20) has been making a statement all season with their improved play. However, last weekend, when they took on Big East rival Notre Dame (27-5), the Fighting Irish had a bigger impression to make upon the national canvas. The fourth ranked Irish entered their weekend series at Shirley Povich Field in Landover, md boasting one of the best offenses in the nation, averaging almost eight runs per game.

This past weekend the Women’s Lacrosse team proved again that they have what it takes. On a hot afternoon the Hoyas beat the undefeated Fighting Irish, winning the Big East Conference for the fourth time. Unfortunately, their conference glory was soon darkened by a disappointing loss at Penn State.

Men’s lacrosse catapults past Catamounts

Sometimes a single player can assert his will and completely dominate a game. In the men’s lacrosse game against Vermont last Saturday, that player was senior midfielder Walid Hajj.

Coming off a heartbreaking home loss to Navy, Georgetown’s men’s lacrosse team responded with a 13-5 rout over the Catamounts, who they had not played since 1993.

Curling for Columbine

At 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, I found myself wandering in a dreamlike stupor down a desolate 36th street to my friends’ house. My friends and I welcomed in the baseball season by wiping crusted eyes to watch our beloved Yankees take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from the Big Egg in Tokyo, Japan, with stadium vendors selling whiskey while ushers blew whistles to alert oblivious fans of approaching foul balls.

St. John’s storms by Georgetown baseball

Georgetown’s baseball team dropped the rubber match of a three-game set against Big East foe St. John’s this weekend. The Jonnies reversed a 4-1 defeat Saturday night to win 5-1. The Hoyas dropped to .500 in conference play (3-3) and 17-13 overall this season.

Men’s lacrosse be-devils Duke again

Georgetown Senior midfielder Walid Hajj is a 2004 pre-season All-American. With 3:14 remaining in Sunday’s game against no. 7 Duke, he showed why he deserved the honors.

Hajj scored his only goal of Sunday’s game on a rocket of a shot deep in the fourth quarter.

Entering Saturday’s contest against Hobart, the no. 6 Georgetown men’s lacrosse team knew that they had more to lose by falling than their unheralded opponent. However, head Coach Dave Urick also had particular motivation to win the game, having come to Georgetown from Hobart, where he won 10 consecutive Division III national titles for the school.

GU baseball surpasses 2003 win total

Junior Catcher Andrew Cleary’s two-run homerun was the difference in Georgetown’s 3-1 victory over visiting Navy. The win takes the Hoyas to 11-2 at their home field in Bethesda, Md. (15-11 overall). Senior ace pitcher Kevin Field pitched a one-two-three first inning in his return from a shoulder inning.
