The No. 2-ranked Fighting Irish improved their unbeaten record to 13-0-1 by dominating throughout the game. Their offense maintained constant pressure, converting six of their 18 shots while their defense controlled the back, allowing only one Georgetown shot on goal.

The Hoyas came back stronger against James Madison on Monday; when they drew 1-1. First-year goalkeeper Erin Mazursky returned to form with a career-high 10 saves. Sophomore Kyle Holsinger- Johnson scored on an assist from senior Courtney Shaub to level the score at one in the 57th minute. Georgetown hits the road to challenge the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg, Va, at 7 p.m. tonight.

Men’s tennis (6-1)

The men’s tennis team lost to local foe George Washington at home on Friday afternoon. The young Hoyas squad came out strong by taking early wins in doubles matches to lead 1-0 going into the singles matches. However, the veteran Colonials faced little competition in the singles format, winning the No. 1 through No. 4 matches.

The Hoyas hope to regroup when they compete in the Old Point National Bank Championships at Old Dominion University this weekend in Norfolk, Va.

Men’s golf

A rained-out final round didn’t stop the Hoyas from securing a fifth-place finish at the Xavier Provident Invitational held at the Kings Island-Grizzley golf course in Mason, Ohio.

Strong performances by sophomore David Erickson and senior James Farrah led the way for the Hoyas, who entered the last round tied with the University of Akron. The two standouts ended up in the top ten individually. Erickson finished in fourth with scores of 68 and 69 while Farrah finished in a four-way tie for 7th with scores of 69 and 70.

Up next is the Big Five Invitation in Chestnut Hill, Pa., followed by Georgetown’s own Invitational Oct. 26 and 27.
