Every Sunday morning, my roommates and I bake scones. By “morning” I mean 1p.m. And by “my roommates and I bake scones,” I mean they watch as I throw ingredients into a bowl, mix and bake them. We sit around the kitchen table-last Sunday until four in the afternoon-trying to pretend that we have nowhere else to be.
Brunch is unarguably the most indulgent of meals: whether it’s at Leo’s or a nice restaurant, it requires laziness and finely honed procrastination skills to fully enjoy a good brunch.
But, delicious as such delicacies may be, brunch isn’t just about eggs and hash browns, croissants and French toast. If all you look for in your weekend morning (ok, afternoon) dining experience is the mundane, stay at Leo’s. Add a little spice by checking out any of these fun foodie locations:
At China Garden’s dim sum brunch, you’re handed what looks like a miniature golf tally card upon entering the restaurant, which is tucked into a Rosslyn office tower. Carts carrying small portions of Chinese delicacies roll through the dining room, and every time you hail a server and grab a plate off of their cart, your card is stamped. Moderately priced dim sum staples provide the perfect entry-level experience.
Any good restaurant prides itself on ambiance, and the “drag queen brunch” at Perry’s in Adams Morgan is no exception. Elaborately dressed and made up drag queens sing and dance as attendees wait in line for the restaurant’s signature sushi bar and soba noodle salads. It’s an experience.
If Leo’s is too close but Perry’s is too far, head down to Wisconsin and M. On Saturdays, Filomena Ristorante offers a brunch buffet which, at $8.95, is well worth it. Offering everything from pasta to salads to waffles, there’s more good food than you can shake a stick at.
Try taking a weekend morning off from sleeping and devote it to the only other means of procrastination worth the college slacker’s attention: eating.
