Men’s Swimming and Diving
The Hoyas dropped a dual meet to Mary Washington on Friday 115-90 in Fredericksburg, Va. Junior Kevin Walsh came up victorious in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard backstroke, while junior Michael Bayer earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle and finished third in the 100-yard freestyle.
Senior Edmund Caulfield took second place in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Daniel Heynen took second in the 500-yard freestyle, while sophomore Nick Libertiny and first-year Kevin Rieffel both took second place in the 200-yard individual medley and 1000-yard freestyle respectively.
The Hoyas earned second place in the 400-yard medley relay and won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Hoyas travel to Fairfax, Va., this weekend for the George Mason Patriot Invitational.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
The Hoyas took their first dual meet win of the season on Friday defeating Mary Washington University 114-91 in Fredericksburg, Va.
Sophomore Kate Amaro led all Hoyas with three first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. She recorded a new season best in the 100-yard event.
Sophomore Corinne Rhodes placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke, while first-year Laura Sytnyk picked up the win in the 200-yard butterfly and senior Colleen Newman took first in the 1000-yard freestyle and first-year Mary Mason won the 200-yard backstroke.
The Hoyas took the gold in the 400-yard freestyle recording a new season best and the team also saw new season-leading scores from Mason and Sytnyk.
Georgetown will travel to Fairfax, Va., next Saturday and Sunday for the George Mason Patriot Invitational.
Women’s Volleyball (9-19, Big East 3-9)
The Georgetown women’s volleyball team finished the season with two losses to Connecticut on Friday 3-1 and suffering another 3-1 defeat to St. John’s on Sunday both at McDonough Gym.
On Friday, despite a season best 21 kills and 18 digs from senior outside hitter Rachel Nelson, the Hoyas were unable to overcome the Huskies. Nelson recorded her 12th double double of the season.
Junior middle blocker Sara Albert, the only other Hoyas’ in double figures, registered 15 kills and 11 dig with a match-high five blocks and three aces. Senior setter Jen Ward finished with a match-high 44 assists, 10 digs, four blocks, two aces and one kill.
The Huskies hit .249 while the Hoyas only hit .149, but Georgetown had the 0-8 advantage in team blocks.
On Sunday, the Hoyas played another four-game match, ending their season losing to St. John’s. Georgetown finishes with a 9-19 overall record and 3-9 in the Big East.
Albert and Nelson had outstanding performances again, both finishing the match with 11 kills. Albert added a match-high seven blocks, five aces and eight digs. Nelson tallied nine digs, two blocks and two aces.
Junior setter Margaret Vernon posted a team high 27 assists while adding four digs, four blocks and two kills.
It was the final game for seniors Molly Healy and Jen Ward. Healy finished with a team-high 13 digs, while Ward had eight assists, a block and a kill.
The Red Storm hit .270, while the Hoyas only posted a .109 hitting average. St. John’s edged the Hoyas 13-12 in team blocks.
