Friday, Feb. 24

Stars; Black Cat
Stars is one of those bands that plays gushy orchestral-rock songs about such weighty subjects as love and war. The show’s been sold out for a while, so go down to the venue and prove your own gushy love for the band to shady-looking scalpers. Just refuse if they offer candy.

Saturday, Feb. 25

Bob Mould; 9:30 Club
Former Husker Dü front man Bob Mould is set to perform a live set in between DJ slots in this 21-years-and-older affair. Come get a quick reminder why his brand of ‘80s punk rock served as a soundtrack for so many teenagers’ lives.

Sunday, Feb. 26

Cartel w/ The Starting Line; 9:30 Club
Riding the wave of radio-friendly pop-punk, Cartel and The Starting Line aim to entertain with heavy guitar riffs and catchy vocal hooks. With energetic playing and perhaps some coordinated mid-song jumps, this show is sure to be a treat for the FM-oriented.

Monday, Feb. 27

George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic All-Stars; 9:30 Club
Sadly, contemporary groups like the Black Eyed Peas have bastardized the genre of funk. Luckily, we still have the pulsating righteousness of Funkadelic to let us know who the real kings of soul searing are. Prepare for a night of liberation and bootyshaking.

Thursday, Mar. 2

Deftones; 9:30 Club
For those of you with a less-than-esoteric taste in rock music, fear not! The commercially successful Deftones will bring their Tool-inspired alternative rock to D.C. as part of their Taste of Chaos tour. You bring the dough; they’ll bring the screaming.

Wolf Eyes and Pig Destroyer; DC9
Noise-rock aficionados will be licking their chops at this mammalian matchup of indie racket-raisers. Wolf Eyes and Pig Destroyer like to bombard the listener with walls of cacophony that are intended to be artistic. Art or not, I’d bring my ear plugs.

Sunday, Mar. 5

Belle & Sebastian and The New Pornographers; 9:30 Club
Among the finest imports of Scotland and Canada respectively, Belle & Sebastian and The New Pornographers will try to satiate hungry stateside fans with delectable pop hooks and a hearty dose of charisma. However, you must somehow find a ticket before gorging yourself on the main course.

Black Cat: 1811 14th St. NW

9:30 Club: 815 V St. NW

DC9: 1940 9th St. NW
