Saturday, 9/2
Castanets, Jana Hunter, Peter and the Wolf; Bulldog Alley
This group of musical mariners is sailing up the Potomac and into Georgetown’s Bulldog Alley for a free show, one of the last stops on their sailboat tour of the North Atlantic Seaboard. Be sure to make it out if you are into neo-folk, seafaring or just free stuff.
Thursday, 9/7
George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars; 9:30 Club
If rainbow dreadlocks and four decades of funk are not enough of a reason to see George Clinton and P-Funk, maybe the insanity of their live act and 2005’s excellent How Late Do You Have 2BB4UR Absent will entice you. They knew what they were talking about when they told us, “Free your mind, and your ass will follow.”
Saturday, 9/9
Junior Boys; Iota
The arduous journey to Arlington will be worth it to see this New Order-inspired electro-pop group. Junior Boys are running on high octane in support of their critically-acclaimed album So This Is Goodbye. In the live setting they bolster their glitchy sound with reverb-drenched guitar solos, making for a truly psychedelic experience.
Wednesday, 9/13
Band of Horses and Chad VanGaalen; Black Cat
Sub Pop sensation Band of Horses have been receiving critical acclaim ever since the release of their 2006 debut, Everything All the Time. Their Neil Young-inflected indie rock is sure to gain a sense of intimacy in the live setting. Make sure to see them now before they end up on The O.C. Soundtrack.
