Abroad in your own backyard

January 25, 2007

Escape post-holiday boredom and traverse the Atlantic in one easy cab ride at one of the many foreign embassy events this February.

If you like the outback but hate the heat, shuffle down to the Australian embassy to check out “Roving Eye”, an exhibit featuring thirteen contemporary artists’ impressions of travel within Australia and overseas.

Minetti Quartet, Austria’s “most promising young string quartet” (juenesse), will perform Schubert at the Austrian Embassy. Tickets are a bit pricey at $45, but don’t let that discourage you; just imagine what it would cost in euros!

The Czech Republic will present “It is Our Problem Too—The Women of the Prisoners of the Cuban Spring,” Alexander Polo’s photo-documentary examining the lives of the wives and mothers of Cuban dissidents arrested by Castro in the spring of 2003.
