After a difficult win against unheralded Fairfield last Saturday, senior attackman Andrew Baird dismissed the suggestion that the Hoyas should have won easily.
“They’re a good team,” he said. “We knew it’d be a close game and that it’d take a whole team effort to beat them.”
Baird played a big role in that team effort, scoring two goals and notching an assist in the 10-8 victory. He’s been on a tear recently, scoring five goals against Hobart and three against both Navy and Mount St. Mary’s. He leads the team with 21 goals this season.
“I guess I’ve been in the right place at the right time,” Baird said. “Brendan [Cannon] and the other guys have really helped out. They’ve found me and the shots have been going.”
This Saturday, the Hoyas travel to Loyola of Maryland to compete in what may be their most important game of the season.
“We are both undefeated in the ECAC,” Baird said. “This could determine who wins the conference and gets the automatic bid, which is the easiest way into the NCAA tournament.”
If Baird keeps scoring, the Hoyas will likely sit alone in first place next week.
