The Georgetown men’s soccer team continued its early-season streak of shut out victories on Thursday afternoon, besting Stony Brook 1-0 on Kehoe Field.
Early play was marked by Georgetown possession and outstanding goalkeeping on both sides. The Hoya attack was spearheaded in the early-goings by sophomore forward Jose Colchao, who accounted for three of Georgetown’s nine shots in the first forty-five.
Georgetown finally broke through in the 73rd minute, when junior midfielder Scott Larabee’s shot from the corner of the box slipped through the hands of senior Dawid Ditric for the game’s lone tally.
The Hoya defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Brutto, held off a late Seawolves attack to seal the win. Thursday’s contest marked the first time in program history that the Hoyas have not allowed a goal in any of the first five matches. The team is currently ranked 20th in the nation by the NSCAA/Adidas poll and will open up conference play at the road against the 25th ranked Friars of Providence (2-0-1).
“We have to quickly re-focus,” head coach Brian Wiese said. “We are suddenly in league now. Providence is on Saturday, and we’re starting from square one again.”
