Fast Break: Women’s Soccer

October 2, 2008

After two shutout victories on the road this past weekend, the Georgetown women’s soccer team (8-0-2, 3-0-0 BE) returns home to host Syracuse on Friday and St. John’s on Sunday.

The Orange (4-4-2, 1-1-1BE) enjoyed a shutout run of their own, until defending Big East champions West Virginia routed them 8-0 on Saturday.

“I’m sure we are going to get some backlash from that,” Georgetown head coach Dave Nolan said. “Them losing that game to West Virginia in the fashion they did, I would have to feel they are going to come out with a point to prove.”

Nolan expects the Orange to either sit back on defense and counter or to push forward and play a more open game. Their choice, according to Nolan, depends on the amount of respect they have for the undefeated Hoyas.

“If they don’t give us that much respect then maybe they’ll just come play us toe-to-toe,” he said. “I would prefer that, because if they play us toe-to-toe then I think we would be in a better position.”

Kick-off against Syracuse is slated for 3 p.m. Friday on North Kehoe Field. St. John’s is set for 1:00 on Sunday.
