Last weekend, head coach Steven Cartwright and Georgetown University’s swimming and diving team suffered losses to the University of Connecticut at McCarthy Pool. The men fell by a score of 163-122, and the women were taken down by a score of 164-127.
The meet wasn’t a total failure for the Hoyas, however, as a number of individuals qualified for events at the Big East Championships. Sophomore Megan Harvey qualified in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing first with a time of 54.92 seconds. Junior Lindsay Vickroy and sophomore Keenan Timko also earned spots in the Big East Championships for the 200-meter backstroke and 100-meter breaststroke, respectively.
Diver Michael McWilliams qualified on the 3-meter board, earning first place with a score of 252.38.
“Right now our biggest focus is the Big East,” Cartwright said, commenting on the loss.
Beginning their preparation for the Big East tournament, the team has one more tuneup against Maryland, in which individual competitors will fight for faster seeds in the conference championships, which begin on February 18th in Indianapolis.
