Now that you’re in college, you have much more than a sad, small locker with which to act out your fantasy of becoming an interior decorator. Decorating your college room in the midst of classes may seem like a daunting task, but it’s also a great opportunity to dazzle your floormates and friends with your creativity. What better time to hone your design aesthetic?
Georgetown is not very generous with student space, so when it comes to decorating those cramped freshmen rooms, wall space and windows are everything, so don’t let those stark white walls stare at you all year long. Posters are every student’s friend, but can appear a bit tacky by themselves, so it’s sometimes a good idea to supplement them with some actual artwork. Bring out your creative side with some crazy splotches on paper, cutout silhouettes, or large prints of your inspiring photos from vacations (and don’t forget a few artsy frames).
Stick-on hooks can be your best friend. Throw them on your walls and doors so you can display your awesome hats, bags, jewelry, even towels—all easily accessible while adding some excitement to your décor. Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie also carry large quantities of more chic and cheap designs.
As a rule of thumb, always go for bolder prints and more color. Extra pillows on your couch or bed can only help your comfort and add a cute quality to the room. Bean bag chairs will have the same effect, and extra seating is never a bad thing. Guests at your next pre-game will thank you.
