You’ve probably heard Drake and his song “Best I Ever Had” at least once, if not two or three times an hour this summer on most pop radio stations. This once self-declared “independent musician” has signed with a major label, and is graciously allowing you to purchase a “new” EP on September 15th, which includes five songs (out of seven) that he has already released on a mixtape. For free.
Drake definitely has the potential to be one of the new scene leaders in the hip-hop world. With hooks like Kanye and raps like Weezy, Drake is a refreshing voice in a far-too-autotuned generation. The two new songs on the EP, featuring Lil Wayne and Eminem, are great, but do yourself a favor: stay away from buying this EP and download some of the last legally free songs remaining on the internet. You’d be better suited saving your money for Drake’s album, Thank Me Later, due next February.

Critical Voices: Drake – So Far Gone EP
By Joe Mancino
September 10, 2009
The So Far Gone mixtape is VERY good. Lust for life, Say whats real and The Calm are all pretty much instant classic tracks.
Whats the reviewer talking about when he says:
‘Some of the last legally free songs remaining on the internet’?
There are so many quality legal and free mixtapes that have come out over the last few years its hard to keep track!
b.o.b. kid cudi, lil wayne, charles hamilton, asher roth.. And theyre just the good ones..
We’re spoilt!
Thanks for the info, I was going to purchase the EP, but will now wait for the album. Great article. Keep up the good work. Got to love the Drake.
