The Big East conference announced their annual soccer season awards on Friday, and Georgetown was well represented. Two members of the team, junior defender Joshua Yaro and freshman goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, earned Defender of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, respectively. Additionally, the Hoyas staff earned the Coaching Staff of the Year award.
This is the second straight season in which Yaro was unanimously named the Big East Defender of the Year, as well as earning First Team All-Big East honors. After missing a portion of the season due to injury, Yaro started in all nine league games, and helped anchor the Georgetown defense that posted six-consecutive shutouts, a school record, in conference play.
Following a terrific season, JT Marcinkowski was named to the First Team All-Big East and the All-Freshman team, in addition to his earning the Freshman of the Year award. Marcinkowski recorded 19 saves and six shutouts in conference play, while only allowing .44 goals per game. He is currently ninth in total shutouts in program history with his seven overall, and could add to that total in the postseason.
Senior attacker Brandon Allen and sophomore midfielder Arun Basuljevic were Big East First-Team selections. Allen currently leads the team in goals (9) and total points (25). He is currently fourth in program history in total points (110) and second in career goals (47). Basuljevic scored two game winning goals in conference play, and is currently third on the team in scoring, with five goals on the season.
Four other members of the squad were named to the All-Big East Second Team. Junior forward Alex Muyl earned a spot on the Second Team for the second-consecutive time. Muyl is currently seventh in the nation with .59 assists per game. He is the team’s second leading scorer with 17 total points.
Senior defenders Keegan Rosenberry, Josh Turnley, and Cole Seiler were all named to the Second Team as well, as the entire Georgetown starting defense earned all-conference selections. The trio played a key role in Georgetown’s shutout streak earlier this season.
Eight members of this year’s team earned all-conference bids, which is the most in the conference and is also a program record.
Additionally, the coaching staff was named Big East Coaching Staff of the year. This is the third time that the staff has earned this honor under current Head Coach Brian Wiese.
The No. 6 Hoyas will suit up for action again next Thursday, Nov. 12, when they take on the winner of the conference quarterfinal matchup between four-seed Xavier and five-seed DePaul. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. on Shaw Field.
