Soccer set to strike back

The Georgetown men’s soccer team (4-2-1) may have gotten knocked down, but they got up again this past weekend. Facing hostile crowds at both away games, Georgetown managed to split the weekend, losing to St. John’s on Friday but defeating Syracuse on Sunday.

Hoyas prep for Big East

The old saying “timing is everything” couldn’t ring more true for the Georgetown men’s soccer team (3-1-1). The Hoyas are on a roll right now as they look to kick off Big East play this weekend, traveling to New York to face St. John’s and Syracuse.

Hoya football has high hopes for new season

How long’s it been since the football team had a winning season? Well, the last time it happened, Bill Clinton was still President, Cher’s “Believe” was the track of the year, and the world had yet to enter the new Millennia. But as the Hoyas wrap up the last week of a month-long camp, the feeling around the team is one of hope, not dread. With a strong corps of seniors and a series of talented recruiting classes coming into their own, this could be the Hoyas’ year to break the .500 mark.

Men’s tennis team heads into Big East Tourney

Some things just don’t go as planned. The Georgetown men’s tennis team did not have the spring they had hoped for—they won only 4 out of their 19 matches. Luckily, the team can wash away the sour taste left over from the season as soon as today, when they will travel to play some of the best teams in the country at the Big East tournament in Tampa, Florida. In the first round, the Hoyas will take on the tournament’s overwhelming favorite, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. But as we’ve seen their football and basketball teams collapse in the past year, it might not be surprising to see the tennis team follow suit.

Fast Break: Women’s hoops

Any mention of basketball at Georgetown this March would have most likely been met with furrowed eyebrows and exasperated sighs. The women’s basketball team, however, provided an unexpected spark on campus with a deep run in the WNIT. After earning a bid to the tournament and winning their first three games, the Hoyas lost to Boston College in the Elite Eight on Sunday.

Baseball handles GW

After a dramatic walk-off win over Navy, the Georgetown baseball team was back on the field yesterday to take on cross-town rival George Washington. Led by sophomore Sean Lamont and Junior Tom Elliott, the Hoyas proved their D.C. dominance as they crushed the Colonials 15-3.

GU looks to quake the Quakers in rematch

After splitting a doubleheader with the University of Pennsylvania last weekend, Georgetown is set to travel to Winter Park, Florida, to face the Quakers once again, with one game on Friday and one on Saturday. The Hoyas are coming off an offensive surge, having scored 21 runs in their last two games.

What Rocks? Tommy Lee

When most Georgetown students hear the name Tommy Lee, they probably think of Mötley Crüe—specifically Pamela Anderson’s video camera-totin’ sweetie—but the Hoyas’ intense centerfielder is about to let Georgetown know who the real Tommy Lee is.

Baseball looks to start season off strong in Tampa

The Georgetown University baseball team opens their 2009 season with high expectations as they look to improve on a disappointing 2008 season. The team has restocked its roster with new talent, and most of last year’s starters have returned for a shot to qualify for the Big East tournament, the Hoyas’ top priority this season.

Fast Break: Women’s hoops falls to DePaul

After losing to top-ranked UConn on Saturday, the Hoyas traveled to DePaul Wednesdy night to take on the 24th-ranked team in the nation. Facing their third straight ranked opponent in a row, the Hoyas had little time to catch their breath.
