Bauder at the Bat

The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Georgetown Nine that day; The score stood 30-2 but one inning more to play. And then, when Hokies batters hit the bases full again; A sudden sickly silence fell upon the Hoya men.

For the batter was none other then Brad Bauder at the plate; He had just hit for his seventh; could he make it 8 for 8? He had shattered Big East records; one by one he watched them fall; By the eighth inning already he’d hit three over the wall!

When he stepped into the box an eerie quiet hushed the crowd; Although Bauder stood there silent, people knew his bat was loud.

Laurendeau: Hoya for life

Junior Jill Laurendeau is a Hoyas fan for life. She loves Georgetown and loves representing the Hoyas in competition. Despite a first year spent battling mononucleosis and several stress fractures in her shins, she remained positive and, according to women’s track and field Head Coach Ron Helmer “has become one of the best middle distance runners in the country.

Women’s lacrosse cage Nittany Lions

By defeating Notre Dame 17-8 on Saturday, the unstoppable Georgetown women’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, clinched its second consecutive Big East Conference championship. Senior All-America attack Erin Elbe led all scorers with four goals and two assists in the game.

Hoyas rebound with victory over Loyola

The Georgetown men’s lacrosse team soundly defeated Loyola College 15-6 yesterday in their first victory against the Greyhounds since 1973. The victory greatly helps the No. 5 Hoyas in their quest for one of six at-large bids to the NCAA tournament in May.

The Georgetown women’s lacrosse team is as hot as the D.C. weather, having defeated James Madison, Boston College and William & Mary this week to improve to 11-1 and 4-0 in the Big East. They have also maintained their No. 2 ranking in this week’s BRINE/IWLCA poll.

Men’s lax undefeated; track teams shine

Men’s Lacrosse (9-0 overall, 3-0 ECAC, No. 3 ranking in USILA/STX poll)

The perfect season is still attainable as the Hoyas improved on their undefeated record with a nail-biting 8-7 victory over Hobart College on Saturday. Very muddy conditions and a solid defensive effort from Hobart forced the Hoyas to rely on a more balanced scoring attack than usual.

If you start slicking your hair back like Mel Kiper Jr., know Tulane quarterback Patrick Ramsey’s shoe size or can quote the bio of some defensive tackle from Hofstra, then you have fallen into the abyss of the NFL draft.

Don’t get me wrong: Tiger Woods is indisputably a handsome man. He is, by all accounts, a nice guy who is humble about and deserving of the billions of dollars and hours of media attention he receives for his golfing prowess. For about six years, I always beat my dad at Connect Four. It was so blatant that he was throwing games, though, because he’d have about 19 different options for a fourth black checker to fall into, and he’d choose the only one on that ghetto contraption which wouldn’t create Connect Four.

Already on their longest opening winning streak in history, the Georgtown men’s lacrosse team added another victory to the books and moved up to No. 4 in the rankings when they defeated Brown 16-6 on Saturday.

Baseball loses 10 straight

The Georgetown baseball team is struggling through a 10-game losing streak after being swept by Big East rival Rutgers in a three-game series last weekend. Despite sophomore Kevin Field’s complete game no-hitter, the Hoyas fell to 7-30 (2-11 Big East) after the series.

We at the Sermon have a new favorite basketball player. Say hello to five-year veteran and Virginia Union graduate, Ben Wallace. The soft-spoken Wallace, once considered salary cap fodder in the trade from Orlando to Detroit for achy-breaky Grant Hill, currently leads the NBA in rebounds and blocked shots and has been one of the primary reasons for the Pistons’ surprising run to the Central Division title this season.

Dusseau leads Men’s Lacrosse to victory

Senior attack Steve Dusseau led the Georgetown lacrosse team to victory in a 13-7 win over Bucknel, and had a career-high nine goals in yesterday’s game. The Hoyas extended their opening winning streak to seven games, the longest in Georgetown history.

Last year Georgetown played Bucknell in Lewisberg, Pa.

Women’s Lacrosse (8-0, 3-0 Big East)

The No. 1 Hoyas’ women’s lacrosse team continued to dominate this week, adding two victories to their perfect record. Last night at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md., Georgetown got its first-ever win over Maryland in 12 meetings between the two teams.
