Chris Wright from St. John’s College H.S. verbally committed to play for the Georgetown Hoyas next year. The senior point guard had formerly announced he would attend North Carolina State this past January. Three months later, when Head Coach Herb Sendek left N.C. State for Arizona State, Wright restarted his college search. His search came to an end on Tuesday when he announced his intention to attend Georgetown at a press conference at St. John’s.
“I felt as though playing at home in front of my family was a big plus, the academics are great and also getting to play for Coach Thompson was a big factor,” Wright said at the press conference, according to DCSportsFan.com. “I feel as though we’ll have a shot to win the championship my freshman year, if not this year.”
Wright’s verbal is just the latest headline in the Hoyas’ recent recruiting exploits. Last season he averaged 21.8 points for St. John’s and is the No. 6 ranked point guard in the 2007 recruiting class. He joins the No. 9 high school prospect on Rivals.com, shooting guard Austin Freeman from DeMatha in Md., who previously committed to Georgetown. These two are sure to make Georgetown’s recruiting class one of the top in the country again after current freshmen Vernon Macklin, DaJuan Summers and Jeremiah Rivers starred in the Hoyas’ recruiting class last year, which was ranked No. 13 according to scout.com.
