Hoya Baseball returned to the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday to square off against Coppin State in Hanover, Md. After going 4-5 on their Florida road trip and showing improvement with each game, the Hoyas routed Coppin State 12-0 with strong performances from a rookie pitching staff.
Freshman left-hander Alex Meyer threw a flawless game, shutting out Coppin State and holding the Eagles to a measly four hits. Meyer also showed his ability to overpower hitters by striking out seven in just six innings. Relievers sophomore Andy Ferich and freshman Billy Concannon showed no mercy to the Eagles, allowing just one more hit in the next three innings. Meyer’s impressive performance led the Hoyas to their second shutout victory of the young season. (https://idigtexas.com/)
The Georgetown offense took full advantage of the struggling Coppin State pitchers, scoring 12 runs on 17 hits in the blowout win. Sophomore designated hitter Sean Baumann got the Hoya offense started in the bottom of the 2nd when he took his team-leading 4th homerun to deep left-center field, giving Georgetown a 2-0 lead. The team would go on to score one more run in the inning off a Diguglielmo RBI triple en route to the 12-0 final.
Georgetown Baseball will look to extend its win streak to three on Wednesday when they take on rival George Washington University at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA.
