A new era for Hoya field hockey?

Georgetown’s field hockey team confronted a tough quandary at the beginning of August when eight-year Head Coach Laurie Carroll announced her resignation in the last week of July. Her assistant coach Homero Pardi walked away with her. Two weeks later the Hoyas announced Tiffany Marsh as the new Head Coach and Emily Beach as her assistant.

Lady Hoyas win big

Senior Day gave the Hoyas more than just the seniors to celebrate. The Georgetown women’s softball team swept Coppin State on Tuesday. The lone senior on the team, Cathy Richter, fittingly hit her second homerun of the season in the first game, to help the Hoyas to a 17-0 victory. The Hoyas took the second game 19-0. Both games ended in five-inning mercy decisions.

Freshmen shine for the Hoyas

Last weekend, when the Hoya Baseball team (14-25, 3-11 BE) lost their three-game series to Big East foes St. John’s (24-12, 11-4 BE), the sweep was not so much a triumph for the Red Storm as it was a heartbreak for the Hoyas. Though St. John’s dominated the series opener 16-0, Georgetown came back in the second game, only to lose in the ninth inning, 8-2. In the third game, the Hoyas took the game to 11 innings before losing 4-2.

We’re excited to hear that, even after declaring for the NBA Draft, Jeff and Roy are considering a hero’s homecoming for their senior season. Die-hard basketball fans have to admit: our hearts are aflutter. Until they make their final decision, we’ll be going to sleep with dreams of back-door cuts, put-back slams and buzzer beaters dancing in our heads. Wouldn’t a championship banner be a nice little memento for the big men to leave behind? The thing is, we’re emotionally involved here. We’ve seen them grow from dread-locked and awkward to awe-inspiring and intimidating.
