Hoyas reach for Big East tournaments

This fall, three Georgetown teams are vying for postseason appearances in the Big East Conference. While the Women’s Soccer team has already secured a berth, the fates of the Men’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball teams have yet to be determined.

Men’s Soccer (5-8 overall, 3-4 Big East, Ninth in Conference)

The Georgetown Men’s Soccer team has five regular season games left.

Midnight in a not-so-perfect world

While most colleges were holding Midnight Madness last week, Georgetown postponed the unveiling of the basketball teams due to the threat of low attendance posed by Columbus Day weekend. The traditional start of the college basketball season, Midnight Madness stokes the coals of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season.

I was fortunate enough to have good tickets to the Jazz-76ers preseason game this past weekend. From my seat, I couldn’t help but notice the ridiculous amount of trash talking on the court. John Stockton was running his little mouth, Karl Malone was staring people down, and Allen Iverson was being cocky as all hell.

Football wins second of season

Football (2-4 overall, 0-3 Patriot League)?Georgetown football pulled off its second win of the season last Saturday, edging Davidson College 25-21 at Davidson, N.C. The Hoyas came back from an eight-point third quarter deficit to snap a two-game losing streak.

Hoop dreams

It’s dark and quiet in the lobby of McDonough Gymnasium 15 minutes before the men’s basketball team holds open tryouts for the 2002-03 season. The only sound is the pacing of the six students inside. Every few minutes, someone stops to admire one of the trophy cases.

Not as mad

It is a sad day for Georgetown and for Georgetown basketball fans when almost every college basketball team in the country holds Midnight Madness except us. That day came last Friday night/early Saturday morning for the Hoyas, as most other NCAA Division I teams kicked off their seasons in celebration, bringing fans, ex-players and coaches together to show off their talents and get geared up for an exciting year of college hoops.

Hoyas drop to four games under .500

The Georgetown Hoyas men’s soccer team was shutout yesterday by the No. 6 Maryland Terrapins 2-0 on North Kehoe Field, in a game marked by the Terrapins’ command of the ball. The loss brings Georgetown’s record to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the Big East.

From the start, Maryland controlled the tempo.

The Georgetown Men’s basketball team will be holding open tryouts for this year’s team on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Current full time students are eligible to try out. Candidates should assemble in the lobby of McDonough Arena, bring their student ID, athletic gear and be prepared to tryout.

Men’s soccer rebounds against Princeton

The Georgetown men’s soccer team held off a second-half charge from Princeton University to win 3-2 on Tuesday at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas’ overall record is now 4-5.

On Saturday, the Hoyas played sluggishly against Big East opponent Boston College and lost 3-1.

Hoyas beat Irish, lose to ‘Cats

After defeating No. 9 Notre Dame for the first time in history on Saturday, the Georgetown women’s soccer team lost to Big East rival Villanova 2-1 yesterday, ending the Hoyas’ seven-game win streak. Georgetown’s record now stands at 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big East.
